Mental Health Awareness
Project: Mental Health Awareness
Alamo Community Colleges in Association with Okay to Say
Campaign by Meadows Mental Health Institute
Purpose:
I was assigned the sole responsibility for the creation and design of a website reflecting participation by Alamo Community College District to address mental health awareness in conjunction with the Okay to Say campaign. I also created the website banners and digital signage to market the campaign.
Goal:
The website design and mental health resource toolkit was as inclusive as it was extensive. My goal was to design a unique presentation to bring awareness of mental health conditions and present it as an opportunity for all to learn and understand mental health issues and to erase stigmatization by education and encouraging everyone to participate in helping others.
Content and Process:
To achieve successful provision of information for the college website, I spent time researching the mental health issue and determined that in addition to projecting the importance of awareness, the web design had to be inviting, easy to understand and navigate, include a variety of resources, and above all stress the importance of acceptance and compassion. My web page design centered around information provided by the Okay to Say and the college Well-Being Manager. My challenge was to turn the information into a user friendly resource focusing on mental health material, screening options, statistics, resource availability within the college as well as outside opportunities for help, resource presentations by week, event dates for participation sponsored by professionals, a Share Your Voice section for question submissions, inclusion resources to cover cultural and identity areas, and group discussion opportunities to name a few topics.
